In Memoriam

The following 107 people were killed as a result of enemy action at Wilkinson’s Air Raid Shelter: May 3rd 1941.

The list includes all 103 people listed on the GENUKI Deaths and Fatal Injuries at North Shields on May 3rd 1941 compiled by Brian Pears.

In addition there are 4 military personnel victims listed who are not recorded on the GENUKI page (which features civilian deaths caused by enemy activity).

43 children (16 years old or younger) were killed. These entries are bordered in red.

The 7 who died later of their injuries in hospital have entries bordered in amber.

Entire families were killed in the bombing:
6 members of the CHATER family (Mother, Father and 4 children)
6 members of the HALL family (Mother and 5 children)
5 members of the KAY family (Mother and 4 children)
4 members of the GERMAIN family (Father and 3 children)
4 members of the HARMAN family (Mother and 3 children)

The oldest victim was 80 year old Emma Curran. The youngest was 2 months old – Robert Shearer.
