Site visitor Brian Chandler recently emailed the following:
Excellent site and resource! Last year I carried out research that involved photographing every known casualty of WWI and WWII buried in Northumberland including Newcastle – over 3000 headstones photographed! During my 3 days at Preston cemetery I came across the stones erected on the graves of the bombing victims – some from the shelter and others from other nights in North Shields, it was then that I discovered the website and the full story of the event. Again, great site and a very tragic story.
Brian has very kindly allowed us to use some of his photos on northshields173 to cover the gaps we have. This work will be ongoing over the summer. All photos copyright Brian Chandler – please do not use without permission
