This from our friend Terry Wilkinson:

On this night, 77 years ago, my great grandfather’s lemonade factory in North Shields was hit by a bomb from a lone German raider. The three-storey premises were destroyed. The bottling machinery fell to the air raid shelter in the basement and 107 people lost their lives. Over 40 of them were children. Whole families perished.

It was one of the largest losses of life from a single bomb during the provincial Blitz.

They are not forgotten. May they Rest In Peace.
