Air Raid Disaster! – Bring it into your Classroom!

Key Stage 2 – History, Local History, Creative Writing

Air Raid Disaster! is a multimedia exploration of one of the most notorious Blitz bombings during WW2.

Delivered by site curator Peter Bolger* and author/teacher Peter Hepplewhite** this interactive session allows children to get an in-depth understanding of the Wilkinson’s Lemonade Factory disaster in the wider context of the Tyneside Blitz and Home Front/Civil Defence.

Children get to see and handle a range of vintage and reproduction ARP objects and through this are encouraged to ask  questions and develop their awareness of the period.

Sessions can be bespoke to each school and can contain ICT and literacy activities to complement classroom work. Examples of such activities include; following a web trail, creating wartime radio broadcasts, designing a propaganda poster, creating a 1940s children’s comic using photos and much more…
