1. Wilkinson Photos
The following photos have been kindly loaned to us for use on the website by Mr Jim Kearney.
Mr Kearney rescued an album of Tynemouth Borough war damage photos from destruction in 1969.
This album was photographed by Anthony (Tony) Graham Det Sgt and Det Cons George J Wilkinson and George W Darling all of Tynemouth Borough Police.
The photos were taken on May 4th 1941, the morning after the bombing.

2. Film Footage
This rare film footage of the continuing rescue/clearance operation was, we assume, taken at the same time as the photographs.
The film is an excerpt from a longer film “Bomb Damage in North Shields” – shot throughout the war by Tynemouth Borough for damage insurance claim purposes.
The film was made known to us by Mr Burdiss (son of the George Medal winner) who loaned us a video copy. The film, it transpired, had been doing the rounds of local social clubs/pubs for some years.
The footage was previously unknown to local library and archive staff. We subsequently donated the film to the Northern TV and Film Archive.
